The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is a statutory body set up by an Act of Parliament. The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 (Act No. XXXVIII of 1949) to regulate the profession of Chartered Accountancy in the country. The Institute, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, functions under the administrative control of the Government of India. ICAI is the second largest professional body of chartered accountants in the world, with a strong tradition of serving the Indian economy in the public interest. The affairs of icai are managed by a council in accordance with the provisions of the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 and the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988. The Council consists of 40 members, of which 32 are elected by chartered accountants and the remaining 8 are nominated. The Central Government generally represents the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, the Securities and Exchange Board of India, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the Ministry of Finance and other stakeholders. Over time ICAI has gained recognition as a leading accounting body not only in the country but globally for maintaining the highest standards in the technical, ethical fields and for maintaining stringent examination and education standards. Since 1949 the institute and this business have expanded its range in terms of members and student base.

ICAI President CA Dr Debashish Mitra and Vice President CA Aniket Sunil Talati will address a press conference at the Timber Trail Resort in Parwanoo, Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, on the points related to the institute’s activities this year and India’s infrastructure.
