The Department of Psychiatry, MMMC&H, Kumarhatti-Solan celebrated World Suicide Prevention Day. The theme this year was “Creating hope through action”. Faculty members, PG and UG students attended the event. The dignitaries present for this event were Prof. Dr. S.S.Minhas, Vice chancellor, MMU, Solan, Dr Ravi C Sharma, Principal, MMMC&H, Dr J.S. Sandhu, Vice Principal, MMMC&H, Dr. R.K. Sharma, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Manpreet Nanda, Deputy Medical Superintendent and Dr Santosh Minhas Dean Students’ Welfare . Various events were organized on this occasion, including a poster presentation competition. The event started with Saraswati Vandana and lighting of the lamp.
Dr Ravi C Sharma, Principal & Professor (Psychiatry), MMMC&H delivered the introductory lecture. Dr Moushumi Purkayastha Mukherjee, Professor, Department of Psychiatry, JIPMER, Pondicherry delivered a talk on Rising incidents of suicide in youngsters. A skit highlighting the theme- Creating hope through action was present by MBBS students following which, Dr Shaturghan Singh, Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology cum Officer Incharge, CRC Sundernagar gave his lecture on Psychological aspects of suicide. Subsequently, an interactive quiz was organized by Dr Saurabh Yakhmi, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry. Dr Deepak Sharma, Professor, Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, MMMC&H spoke regarding the Legal aspects of Suicide in India.
Lecture on Approach to “a potentially suicidal patient ” was given by Dr. Parul Sharma, Professor & Head, Department of Psychiatry MMMC&H. Thereafter,
Dr Neelam Grover, Professor & Head, Department of Paediatrics announced the winners of the poster presentation and applauded the efforts of the organizers. The event ended with vote of thanks.
