“Change the Narrative”.

The Department of Psychiatry, MMMC&H, Kumarhatti, Solan celebrated the “World Suicide Prevention Day” on the 10th of September 2024. The theme for this year was “Change the Narrative”. Preparatory activities to mark the event had started a day before when two rangolis were made by the students at the premises of the venue.
Faculty members, guest speakers, delegates, PG students, MBBS students (Batch 2020) and B.Sc. students (Batch 2024) attended the event.

The dignitaries present for the event were Dr. Ravi Chand Sharma (Principal & Professor, Department of Psychiatry), Dr. J.S. Sandhu (Vice Principal & Professor, Department of Physiology), Dr. Amisha Sharma (Dean, Student Welfare & Professor, Department of Microbiology) and Dr. S.C. Chadha (Deputy Medical Superintendent & Professor, Department of Medicine).

The event started with Saraswati Vandana and lamp lighting ceremony.
The welcome speech and an introduction into the theme of this year “Change the Narrative” was given by Dr. Ravleen Kaur Jaggi (JR-2, Department of Psychiatry).
Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, MMMC&H delivered the introductory lecture. She spoke on the epidemiology of suicide.
Dr. Kajalpreet Kaur, Senior Resident, Department of Psychiatry, MMMC&H delivered a talk on the risk factors, and QPR based gatekeeper training for suicide prevention
A skit was prepared and supervised by the Junior Residents of the Department of Psychiatry highlighting the theme “Change the Narrative” and was presented by MBBS students.
Dr. Ravi Chand Sharma, Principal and Professor, MMMC&H, who has been serving people of Himachal Pradesh for the past 35 years shared his valuable views regarding importance of the day, this year’s theme, role of medical health professionals in prevention of suicide at individual and community level.
Vote of Thanks was presented by Dr. Ravleen Kaur Jaggi (JR-2, Department of Psychiatry).
